The Jurors OF 2021 EDITION.
We believe that an Award is as significant as the quality of its judging team. This is why we have invited a group of seven jurors that have in common to be master portrait photographers. Selected images in this Portrait Award will be chosen and backed by masters with different selection criteria. However, all will be focusing on five main aspects of the photograph: concept, execution, boldness, creativity and emotional impact, making the viewer think and feel what the image is transmitting.

ADAM FERGUSON. Image by Kathy Ryan. Ferguson first gained recognition for his work in 2009 when he embarked on a sustained survey of the U.S. led war in Afghanistan, where he worked as a photojournalist contributing to The New York Times, Time Magazine and National Geographic. He has been the recipient of multiple awards from World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, American Photography, Photo District News, The Overseas Press Club of America, Columbia University and the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, among others. JUSTINE TJALLINKS. Portrayed with gallerist Roy Kahmann. Justine Tjallinks (1984) is an Amsterdam-based Dutch Artistic Photographer. Justine aims to capture the uniqueness of individuals and the diversity of human beauty, often backed by a story of social importance. For the first years of her photographic career, she was mainly inspired by the master painters from the Dutch Golden Age. Fashion design is used as an additional means of expression, but never as a leading role. Even though a sense of nostalgia speaks through her art, the aim is to always remain in line with the contemporary zeitgeist. Justine’s works have been exhibited in national and international venues and she has won multiple international photography awards. She is currently represented by Kahmann Gallery in Amsterdam and MC2Gallery in Italy.

SANDRO MILLER. Image by Marc Hauser. As a young teen, Sandro Miller embraced the idea of making photographic portraits after seeing the portrait imagery of Irving Penn. Sandro has a working relationship with the camera giant Nikon and is responsible for introducing their latest technology to the professional photographic world. For the past few years, in juried competitions within the industry, Sandro has been voted one of the top 200 advertising photographers in the world, and has been honored with multiple awards, including the Lucie Foundation’s International Photographer of the Year award, in 2014 and 2015.

STEVE McCURRY. Steve McCurry has been one of the most iconic voices in contemporary photography for more than thirty years, with scores of magazine and book covers, over a dozen books, and countless exhibitions around the world to his name. Born in a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; McCurry studied film at Pennsylvania State University, before going on to work for a local newspaper. After several years of freelance work, McCurry made his first of what would become many trips to India. Travelling with little more than a bag of clothes and a roll of film, he made his way across the subcontinent, exploring the country with his camera. For Steve, photography is literally about wandering, observing and telling stories whether it's portraiture, human behaviour, or how we live on this planet
